Partners Praise Efforts Made to Fight HIV/AIDS 

International and National partners lauded the efforts being made to reduce the impact of HIV/AIDS in Ethiopia. Representatives of Network of Networks of the Associations of Positive People living with the Virus /NEP+/, the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief /PEPFAR/, the World Bank, UNAIDS and others made the remark at the opening of a three-day semi-annual performance review meeting held on February 17-19, 2010 in Hawassa, the regional capital of SNNPR.

ART scale-up in Ethiopia

The introduction of ART presents an enormous opportunity in terms of reducing morbidity and mortality due to AIDS worldwide. Ethiopia has been engaged in the scale up of ART access to its people since 2005. The free ART program was launched in July 2005. Despite the many challenges, ART scale up has recorded the greatest achievement over the last few years. The service has been expanded from only three health facilities in 2005 to 400 in 2008. The number of people ever started on ART has also shown an unprecedented increase during the same period from 900 in 2005 to 180,447 by end of December 2008.

Religious Leaders Renew Their Commitments

Stand in Unison to Fight the Pandemic!

A consultative workshop with the religious leaders aimed at scaling-up community conversation program among their followers was conducted in Adama, at Dire International Hotel, from January 14-16, 2010.

The representatives of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church Patriarch, the President of the Supreme Council of the Ethiopian Islamic Affairs, the President of Mekane Yesus Evangelical Church, Secretary General of the Ethiopian Kale Hiwot Church and the representative of the Union of Ethiopian Evangelical Churches attended the last day of the workshop.
