Dr Betru Tekle, Director General of Federal HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Office and Dr. Marc Nosbach Officer in Chargee- Save the Children USA /SC/US/ signed a 40 million USD cooperative agreement on September 8, 2009 at FHAPCO head quarters. The agreement is aimed at reaching most at risk mobile populations and people living with HIV /PLHIV/ with prevention and care services. After signing the agreement Dr. Betru expressed his gratitude to SC/US for having prepared and designed to implement the TransACTION program in Ethiopia. He further reiterated the commitment of his office on behalf of the government of Ethiopia to cooperate in the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the project. |

September 8, 2009, Adama, Ethiopia. The Federal HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Office (FHAPCO) held a training of trainers (TOT) on mainstreaming HIV/AIDS programs in higher educational institutions, sectoral ministries, national associations and regional youth and sport bureaus from August 31 to September 6, 2009. A total of 82 participants attended the TOT; 46 of the participants were HIV and AIDS focal persons/coordinators of sectors, associations, and regional bureaus and where as 36 were HIV program coordinators from 21 government universities. Seventeen university presidents, vice presidents and delegates also attended a 2-day consultative meeting with the HIV/AIDS focal persons after the TOT.

The Federal HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Office (FHAPCO) in collaboration with the partners conducted 2001 Ethiopian fiscal year (2008/09) Multisectoral HIV/AIDS response annual joint review meeting from August 3-5, 2009 in BahirDar, Amhara region, Ethiopia. Dr. Betru Tekle, Director General of FHAPCO had made a welcoming speech. Dr. Betru presented the summary of the national Multisectoral HIV/AIDS response report and highlighted points to be seriously considered to attain the targets set for 2010. The Director General invited major partners to make the keynote address and also he invited the Amhara region honorable guest to make official opening. |
